    Polystyrene (PS), with the chemical formula of (C8H8)n, refers to a polymer synthesized by free radical addition polymerization of styrene monomer. It refers to a class of plastics that include styrene-based macromolecular chains, including styrene and its copolymers. Specific varieties include General-purpose polystyrene (GPPS), High-impact polystyrene (HIPS), Expandable polystyrene (EPS) and Syndiotactic polystyrene (SPS), etc. PS resin is a colorless and transparent thermoplastic with a glass transition temperature above 100°C. Therefore, it is often used to make various disposable containers that need to withstand higher temperatures, as well as disposable foam lunch boxes.

    General-purpose polystyrene (GPPS)

    GPPS is a kind of thermoplastic resin, which is non-toxic, odorless, colorless transparent particles, glass-like brittle material. Its products have extremely high transparency, light transmittance can reach more than 90%. It has the properties of good electrical insulation performance, easy to color, good processing fluidity, good rigidity and good chemical corrosion resistance. The disadvantage of GPPS is that it is brittle, has low impact strength, is prone to stress cracking, has poor heat resistance and is not resistant to boiling water.

    High-impact polystyrene (HIPS)

    HIPS is a white or yellowish opaque thermoplastic resin. In addition to excellent impact properties, it also has most of the advantages of polystyrene, such as good dimensional stability, good rigidity, easy processing, high gloss of products, easy coloring, etc. But it has poor tensile strength, light stability, oxygen permeability. HIPS is suitable for manufacturing various electrical parts, equipment covers, instrument parts, refrigerator linings, containers, food packaging and disposable appliances, etc.

    Expandable polystyrene (EPS)

    EPS is made by impregnating ordinary polystyrene with a low-boiling physical blowing agent. It is heated and foamed during processing, and is specially used to make foam plastic products.

    Syndiotactic polystyrene (SPS)

    SPS has a syndiotactic structure and is produced using metallocene catalysts. As a new type of polystyrene, it has good performance and belongs to engineering plastics.

    Polystyrene resin is one of the most easy-to-process varieties of general-purpose plastics. There is a large difference between the molding temperature and the decomposition temperature, and PS resin can be processed and molded in a wide temperature range.

    It has the characteristics of low cost, high rigidity, good transparency, and its electrical properties are not affected by frequency. So it can be widely used in instrument shells, automobile lampshades, lighting products, various containers, high-frequency capacitors, high-frequency insulation products, optical fibers, and packaging materials, etc.

    Due to its light weight, low thermal conductivity, low water absorption, and good impact resistance, Expandable Polystyrene PS is widely used in construction, transportation, refrigeration, and chemical equipment insulation, heat insulation, and shock-absorbing materials.

    Polystyrene PS is easy to process and shape, and has the advantages of transparency, cheapness, rigidity, insulation, and good printability. Widely used in light industry market, daily decoration, lighting instructions and packaging, etc.

    In terms of electricity, it is a good insulating material and thermal insulation material. PS resin can be used to make various instrument casings, lampshades, optical and chemical instrument parts, transparent films, capacitor dielectric layers, etc.
