Polyolefin elastomer, referred to as POE, is a synthetic resin with thermoplastic elasticity, which is made by polymerization of ethylene and α-olefins (such as 1-butene, 1-hexene or 1-octene). The special structure makes POE resin have good flexibility, impact resistance, tear resistance, high temperature resistance, corrosion resistance and strong light transmittance. It also has excellent compatibility and can be mixed with other polyolefin products.

As a thermoplastic elastomer material with excellent performance, POE resin granules can be used in many fields such as electrical products, food containers and packaging materials, wires and cables, automotive parts, toys, mechanical tools, hot melt adhesives, seals,etc. Besides, POE polyolefin elastomer resin can also be used to prepare foaming materials, such as sponge midsoles and microporous bottoms of advanced sports shoes.

Main Applications of Polyolefin Elastomer Resin

  • Automotive industry. The polyolefin elastomer resin is mainly used as sealing strips and shock-absorbing materials in the automotive industry. Its excellent weather resistance and low-temperature resistance enable these parts to maintain their elasticity and physical properties under extreme climatic conditions, ensuring the long-term reliability of automotive parts. In addition, POE resin is also used to manufacture automotive interior parts, meeting the automotive industry’s demand for material diversification and high performance.
  • Photovoltaic industry. With the rapid development of the photovoltaic industry, POE is increasingly used in photovoltaic films. POE films have excellent light transmittance, weather resistance and aging resistance, and are one of the key materials for photovoltaic module encapsulation.
  • Wires and cables. POE polyolefin elastomer resin can be used for insulation and sheath materials of wires and cables. Because of its good low temperature resistance and electrical properties, it can meet the use requirements of cables under extreme conditions.

  1. The comonomer content of POP resin is less than 20%, while that of POE resin is greater than 20%. As a result, polyolefin elastomer (POE) resin differs from POP resin in physical and chemical properties.
  2. POP polymer has excellent toughness, transparency and heat sealing properties, but weather resistance and aging resistance may be relatively poor. However, POE has excellent weather resistance and aging resistance, as well as good low temperature performance and processability.
  3. Due to the low content of comonomer, the density of POP resin is usually higher than that of POE resin.

POE resin has the characteristics of low sealing temperature, hot viscosity, anti-pollution heat sealing, toughness, tear resistance and transparency, so it is suitable as a heat sealing layer for film blowing, extrusion and casting. So it is mainly used in the fields of food packaging (fresh food, fresh and processed meat, cheese and milk in blocks, etc.), hygiene and medical fields, elastic film fields (diapers, elastic waistbands and bottom films) and personal care fields (detergent, washing powder and shampoo packaging, etc.).
