Polyolefin elastomer, referred to as POE, is a synthetic resin with thermoplastic elasticity, which is made by polymerization of ethylene and α-olefins (such as 1-butene, 1-hexene or 1-octene). The special structure makes POE resin have good flexibility, impact resistance, tear resistance, high temperature resistance, corrosion resistance and strong light transmittance. It also has excellent compatibility and can be mixed with other polyolefin products.

As a thermoplastic elastomer material with excellent performance, POE resin granules can be used in many fields such as electrical products, food containers and packaging materials, automotive accessories, wires and cables, etc. Besides, POE polyolefin elastomer resin can also be used to prepare foaming materials, such as sponge midsoles and microporous bottoms of advanced sports shoes.

Main Applications of Polyolefin Elastomer Resin

  • Modifier (1) PE modification: POE has good compatibility with PE (polyethylene) and can effectively improve the flexibility of PE, especially its performance at low temperatures. This modified PE is widely used in blown film, hollow blow molding, rotational molding, spinning, cable sheathing, wood-plastic composite and other fields. (2) PP modification: POE has good compatibility after blending with PP (polypropylene), which can significantly improve the toughness of PP while maintaining high yield strength, Young’s modulus and good processing fluidity. The modified PP is suitable for automobile bumpers, automobile door panels, home appliance housings, office stationery and other products.
  • Shoe material application. The preparation of midsoles and microporous soles of advanced sports shoes uses the excellent physical and mechanical properties and low temperature resistance of POE to improve the elasticity and comfort of the soles.
  • Wires and cables. POE resin can be used for insulation and sheath materials of wires and cables. Because of its good low temperature resistance and electrical properties, it can meet the use requirements of cables under extreme conditions.
  • Auto parts. Due to its excellent toughness and impact resistance, polyolefin elastomer is used in automotive sealing strips, buffer blocks, guard plates and other parts to improve the safety and comfort of the car.
  • Packaging materials. POE resin can be used to make various packaging films and packaging bags, such as food packaging, medical packaging, etc., because of its good sealing and low temperature resistance.
  • Construction field. POE resin can be used in the preparation of building sealing materials, waterproof materials, sound insulation materials, etc., to improve the durability and comfort of buildings.
  • Toys and sports equipment. The elasticity and softness of POE make it an ideal material for making various toys and sports equipment, such as balls, protective gear, etc.
  • Other fields. The  polyolefin elastomer resin can also be used to prepare rubber products such as hoses, conveyor belts, transmission belts, as well as medical supplies such as heat shrinkable films and medical catheters.

  • This resin has good compatibility with polyolefin resins such as PP (polypropylene) and is often used for toughening modification of polyolefins.
  • POE modified styrene-based resin can effectively improve its impact strength and apparent properties, and enhance the impact resistance of products.

Low density and high transparency

The density of uncross-linked POE is 10% to 20% lower than that of ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA) and styrene-butadiene-styrene copolymer (SBS), and the material has high transparency.

Good compatibility with other materials

POE is a non-polar saturated polyolefin copolymer and has good compatibility with general plastics such as polyethylene and polypropylene.
